Rockfall event logged at Mayon Volcano on Maundy Thursday
A rockfall event was recorded at Mayon Volcano in Albay on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
PHIVOLCS said the rockfall event occurred at 11:45 a.m.
“Rockfall travelled along the uppermost south tributary of the Basud Gully and came to rest within a kilometer of the Mayon summit,” the advisory read.
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over Mayon Volcano, which means it only has a low level of unrest.
From 12 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, until 12 a.m. Thursday, April 17, the volcano emitted an average of 301 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.
It also generated a 500-meter-high plume that drifted west and west-northwestward.
Despite a low level of unrest, state seismologists warned the public that entry into the 6-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone is still prohibited.
Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is also not allowed. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
