2 alleged rebels killed in Masbate encounter


Two alleged New People's Army rebels were killed in an encounter with the Philippine military in Cawayan, Masbate.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Good Friday, the incident occurred during the 2nd Infantry Battalion’s security patrol in Barangay Libertad.

The army said at least 12 rebels were in the area, including the two who were killed.  

One soldier injured during the exchange of gunfire was given medical attention.

The military said it nabbed one rebel who confessed about their plan to extort local candidates in the area.

Authorities were able to seize 2 guns, 3 anti-personnel mines, and a bag containing documents. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
