Family of 3 hurt as truck rams into their house in Rizal
A married couple and their 25-year-old child were injured after a 10-wheeler dump truck crashed into their house in Teresa, Rizal.
In EJ Gomez’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” the truck was loaded with sand when it hit the house in Barangay San Gabriel early Tuesday morning.
The truck was delivering sand from Antipolo to Morong.
The police said that due to the weight of the sand, the truck driver was unable to control the vehicle as the brake failed. The vehicle continued to run until it hit the house.
Due to the impact, the truck’s front part was wrecked while the wall of the house collapsed, and the water meter was damaged.
The couple, who were 59 and 60 years old, and their child were rescued after they climbed to the roof of the house since the front gate was blocked by the truck.
They sustained cuts and bruises on their bodies.
“Bigla pong bumagsak na yung bahay, buhos na yung buhangin o alikabok. Nagsisigaw na ako na tulong, tulong, dahil wala na kaming makita. Pinilit ko pong makagapang hanggang doon sa may kusina kasi baka kami biglang bagsakan pa ng bahay. Tapos po, nag-akyatan na po sa bubong. Yung mga tao, tinulungan na kami,” said victim Mila Tamayo.
(A part of the house collapsed and the sand was spilled. I was shouting for help since we could not see anything. I forced myself to crawl to our kitchen because the house might collapse. We climbed to our roof. The people helped us.)
The responders said the truck driver and his passenger were also injured. The driver was extricated since he was stuck inside the truck after the collision. He was arrested by Teresa police but was later released after reaching a settlement with the victims.
The police said the victims will not file charges against the driver since he and the truck owner promised to pay for the damage to the house and the victims’ hospital bills. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
