P5 Million in expired food items seized in Tarlac warehouse
Authorities seized P5 million worth of food items that were either nearing expiration or already expired in a warehouse in Capas, Tarlac.
According to John Consulta’s report on 24 Oras on Monday, agents from the National Bureau of Investigation Tarlac, together with personnel from the Food and Drug Administration, discovered boxes of canned milk, instant noodles, chocolates, and instant coffee at the site.
“Mayroon kaming natanggap na impormasyon na mayroong labelling ng expired products,” said NBI Tarlac Chief Special Agent Adeodato Logronio.
(We received information about the relabeling of expired products.)
Authorities also found cans of thinner, allegedly used to remove original expiration labels, and stamps intended for altering expiry dates.
The NBI said the seized items were being sold at very low prices online and to local sari-sari stores.
“Mag-file tayo ng kasong violation of Consumer Act at FDA sa may-ari nito,” Logronio added.
(We will file charges against the warehouse owner for violations of the Consumer Act and FDA regulations.)
The bureau also plans to seek a court order to dispose of the expired items. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/DVM, GMA Integrated News
