Motorist, passenger yield guns, P1.4M in cash after chase by HPG

The PNP Highway Patrol Group arrested a motorist and his passenger after they yielded two guns after being chased for traffic violations on the Los Baños Highway in Laguna.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s exclusive report on “24 Oras,” the authorities said the driver and his passenger had been identified as employees of the Sta. Rosa local government unit.

The driver tried to escape after the HPG members flagged them down for using a blinker and having a suspicious plate number.

“Nag-swerve po sa highway at nakita rin na s’ya po ay gumagamit ng red plate sa harap at yung kanya pong plaka sa likod ay wala. During the flagdown or apprehension, dun po napag-alaman na meron po silang dalang dalawang uri ng baril,” said Police Capt.Nadame Malang, PNP-HPG spokesperson.

(The vehicle was swerving on the highway and used a red plate on the front and had no plate number on the back. During the flagdown or apprehension, we discovered two classes of firearms.)

The suspects said the firearms were already in the vehicle even before they used it.

Malang said bringing or transporting firearms is prohibited due to the election gun ban.

Authorities also found that the suspects were carrying P1.4 million in cash in the vehicle.

“‘Di po biro ang laki ng halaga na kanila pong dala. Yung pera na yun maaring gamitin para po sa ating nalalapit na eleksyon at isa yan sa tinututukan ng ating imbestigador,” Malang said.

(They brought a hefty amount of money, which could be used for the upcoming elections. That’s what our investigator is focusing on.)

GMA Integrated News is seeking comments from the suspects, who have been taken into custody.
