Road accidents killed 18 people in Aklan from Jan. 1-May 25 - police

Aklan province has so far tallied 18 fatalities due to road accidents since the beginning of the year until May 25, the Aklan Police Provincial Office said.

According to the report of Barangay RU 92.9 Super Radyo Kalibo's Lyneth Mendoza on Thursday, the figure is higher than the 14 deaths recorded in the same period last year.

Human error and drunk driving are the top reasons for the road accidents, the police said. They were followed by bad road conditions and mechanical error.

There were 255 road accidents in the province between January 1 and May 25. However, this is lower than the 278 accidents that occurred during the same period last year.

Motorcycles are the primary vehicle involved in most of these accidents.

Authorities are now working to lessen road accidents in the province. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
