1 dead, 2 hurt after motorcycle crashes into tricycle in Antipolo

A 23-year-old motorcycle rider died while two persons were injured in a collision involving a motorcycle and a tricycle in Antipolo City on Monday morning.

According to a report by EJ Gomez on Tuesday’s 24 Oras, the accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. along Maguey Road in Barangay San Luis.

Witnesses said the victim was onboard a motorcycle headed uphill when it collided with an oncoming tricycle.

Residsent Abraham Mutas, said the motorcycle was moving fast before it started to wobble.

“Mabilis po tapos nag-wiggle. Pag ganoon ng motor, umiwas yung tricycle. Tapos, parang nag lock yung single. Yung kadena, kadena, yung kadena … sumalpok.”

(It was going fast then started to wobble. When the motorbike did that, the tricycle swerved. Then it seemed like the chain locked—then they crashed.)

The tricycle driver also said the motorcycle was moving quite fast.

“Matulin, tapos nag-wiggle yung motor niya.”

(It was fast, then the motorbike wobbled.)

The motorcycle was thrown off the road while the tricycle tipped on its side. The motorcycle rider, who was wearing a bicycle helmet, was declared dead on the spot.

First responders said they found the rider unconscious while sprawled on the road with injuries on the head and chest. They attempted to resuscitate the victim but were unsuccessful.

The 50-year-old tricycle driver and his female passenger sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Police said both parties have reached a settlement.
