Newborn found dead at irrigation canal in GenSan

A newborn girl was found lifeless at an irrigation canal in Barangay Katanggawan, General Santos City.

The infant’s body, which was submerged in water, drew the attention of residents nearby who reported it immediately to authorities.

The baby may have been submerged in the water for about five hours before it was found, based on investigation by Scene of the Crime Operatives’ (SOCO) investigation.

Residents said the baby still had her umbilical cord when found.

Police added that the mother of the baby may face infanticide charges.

“We are exerting effort right now, mga operatives, tulong tulong na kami na bumalik sa crime scene and to look for possible witnesses. And to find kung sino yung possible na mother na walang awa na nagtapon sa bagong silang na bata,” Police Station 8 Commander Major Robert Forres said. —GMA Regional TV
