Magnitude 5.4 quake hits Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit Lingig, Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Tuesday.
The PHIVOLCS earlier reported that a 5.8-magnitude hit the area.
The earthquake of tectonic origin occurred at 4:36 p.m. with a depth of 29 kilometers.
The epicenter is located at 08.06°N, 126.75°E - 037 km N 86° E of Lingig.
PHIVOLCS also reported intensities in the following areas:
- Intensity IV - City of Bislig, Hinatuan, and Lingig, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity II - Mabini, and Maco, Davao del Sur; San Francisco, Surigao del Norte; Barobo, and City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur
State seismologists said there is no expected damage and but aftershocks may occur.
Meanwhile, a 5.1-magnitude occurred at 2:25 p.m. southeast of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental, with a depth of 76 kilometers and tectonic in origin.
There are no damages and no aftershocks are expected. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
