TNVS driver nabbed for alleged rape

Authorities arrested a Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver in Cainta, Rizal for a complaint of rape filed by his passenger.

According to a report by John Consulta on "24 Oras," the alleged incident happened at around 3 a.m. Sunday in southern Metro Manila when the victim fell asleep during the trip.

"Nagulat siya nung magising siya, the vehicle was already on stop mode tapos nakapatong na sa kanya 'yung driver," said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

"She struggled to extricate herself from the lewd acts of the driver, sinuntok siya sa sikmura nanghina siya (she was punched in the stomach which made her weak)," the official added.

The victim found an opportunity to escape when the TNVS driver reached out to the front of the vehicle to get something.  However, the victim left her bag with her mobile phone.

During a live line-up of suspects, the victim positively identified her alleged attacker.

A relative of the suspect also surrendered several mobile phones kept by the driver.

"Humihingi ako ng tawad. Syempre tao rin po ako, nadadala sa tukso," the driver said, adding he would deal with his case.

NBI-National Capital Region director Ferdinand Lavin said, "We will be furnishing the Land Transportation Office the results of our investigation for any punitive action against the driver."

"This is a way forward for all of us to protect the commuting public," he said. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
