PCG rescues 2 missing fishermen in Bataan
Two fishermen who went missing on Sunday were rescued in the waters of Orion, Bataan, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday.
“At around 9:45AM today, 07 July 2025, BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) sighted two missing fishermen holding on to their half-submerged fishing vessel, roughly 4.7 nautical miles northeast by east of Orion, Bataan,” the Coast Guard said.
“The Coast Guard SAR team facilitated the safe and swift rescue mission. By 9:50AM, the rescued individuals were safely brought aboard and provided with assistance,” it added.
Coast Guard Station (CGS) Bataan station commander Commander Michael John Encina said the two, aged 70 and 71, were “physically well” during the rescue mission.
BRP Boracay with the rescued fishermen proceeded to the Port of Capinpin in Orion where CGS Bataan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and their families were waiting for them.
Upon arrival, the rescued fishermen received immediate medical attention and were transported to the rural health unit in Barangay Wawa for further evaluation and continuous medical observation, the PCG said.
The PCG said the disappearance of the two fishermen was reported on Sunday. They were last seen operating their motorized banca in the vicinity of Pilar town.
According to the PCG, the two fishermen encountered a strong current that contributed to the mishap. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
