Operator of taxi in Davao that overcharged couple penalized
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Davao (LTFRB-11) has fined the operator of the taxi whose driver overcharged his passengers.
LTFRB-11 fined the operator P5,000 after the driver of the taxi charged a couple nearly P3,000 in fare for a 12-kilometer trip to the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal from the Davao International Airport.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office-Davao (LTO-11) is yet to decide on the penalty for the taxi driver.
“It's a separate penalty for the driver because they are also conducting their (LTO-11) own investigation. From our end, it's already decided that the operator has the obligation to cater the needs of the passenger and that is stipulated in their franchises. It is already found out that there is a breach of franchise in their conditions that's why the operator is penalized,” LTFRB-11 Director, Nonito Llanos III, said.
It was also found out that the taxi meter was not tampered.
The daughter of the couple accepted the decision and expressed hope that no similar incident will happen in the future.
