PAGASA: Three Luzon dams open gates to release water

Three dams in Luzon had a few of their gates open on Sunday morning to release water amid heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Wipha (formerly named Crising) which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Ipo Dam in Bulacan had one gate open at 1.0 meter at 8 a.m., and water discharge is 112.50 cubic meters per second, data from PAGASA showed.

The dam's reservoir water level (RWL) was at 100.50 meters at 8 a.m. on Sunday, near the 101.10-meter spilling level.

Ambuklao Dam in Benguet meanwhile also had one gate open at 8 a.m. at 0.3 meter, discharging 78.74 cubic meters per second.

Its RWL was at 751.78 meters, nearing the 752-meter spilling level.

On the other hand, Binga Dam also in Benguet had two gates open at 1.00 meters, discharging 161.57 cubic meters of water per second.

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to affect the country on Sunday and bring rains, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

Metro Manila, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, and the rest of Ilocos Region may expect occasional rains. Moderate to heavy rains may possibly cause floods or landslides.

Around 50 to 100 of rainfall is expected to fall on Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Oriental Mindoro today, PAGASA said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
