Magnitude 5.5 earthquake recorded offshore Cagayan

An earthquake with magnitude 5.5 struck offshore Calayan, Cagayan on Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake occurred at 1:45 p.m., PHIVOLCS said.
The tectonic earthquake had a depth of 32 km and its epicenter was located 19.71°N, 121.43°E - 050 km N 05° west of Calayan.
The earthquake was reported to have been felt in the following areas:
- Intensity V - Calayan, Cagayan
- Intensity III - Pamplona, Cagayan
Instrumental intensities were as follows::
- Intensity III - Claveria, Cagayan
- Intensity II - Basco, Batanes
- Intensity I in Peñablanca, Cagayan
No damage is expected, but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS said.
PHIVOLCS first reported the earthquake as having magnitude 5.8, but downgraded it to magnitude 5.5 in an update. —KG, GMA Integrated News
