Cebu guv orders 30-day suspension of quarry activities

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro has ordered the suspension of all quarry activities in the Province within 30 days.

The order took effect immediately beginning July 28, 2025, suspending all quarry permits and special disposal permits in the Province of Cebu.

Baricuatro ordered Capitol's Special Review Committee to review and evaluate existing contracts, and check if the volume of extracted materials has complied with the authorized volume based on the contract.

The month-long suspension also gives the committee ample time for the review and evaluation, and the drafting of a recommendation.

In the absence of any violations, resumption will be granted to quarry operators. However, erring operators will face termination of contract and legal consequences.

It was learned from Rodel Bontuyan, head of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), that the order covers 10 quarry permits and nine special disposal permits. — GMA Regional TV News
