Boat capsizes in Sulu; passengers, crew rescued

A boat capsized in Sulu on Monday night, the Sulu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said Tuesday.

The Sulu PDRRMO said they first received a report about the capsized passenger boat named Jungkung at around 7:30 p.m. The vessel capsized between Bangas and Jolo.

The Coast Guard Western Sulu Station also received a distress call from the vessel.

Rescuers and responders from the Sulu PDRRMO, Coast Guard Western Sulu Station, Philippine National Police Maritime Group and the Philippine Red Cross quickly went into action. The Integrated Provincial Health Office - Sulu Provincial Hospital emergency room was placed on alert for possible casualties, the PDRRMO said.

All six passengers and crew were rescued at around 8:45 p.m. They arrived safely at Jolo Wharf at 9:16 p.m., according to the PDRRMO. —with a report from Peewee Bacuño/KG, GMA Integrated News
