NGCP: Yellow alert up over Visayas grid

Yellow alert up over Visayas grid for August 6, 2025, NGCP says

A yellow alert has been raised for the Visayas power grid for Wednesday (August 6, 2025) afternoon and evening amid forced outages of several power plants, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.

In its 7 a.m. advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert is effective from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

According to the NGCP, there is a significant number of plants on unplanned or forced outages and derated capacities amid high system demand.

“Eleven plants have been on forced outage from April to August and six other power plants out since 2023; while four are running on derated capacities, for a total of 725.2MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.

The Visayas grid is composed of the interconnected island grids of Cebu, Negros, Panay, Leyte, Samar, and Bohol. It accounts for 14% of the country's power demand, according to the NGCP website.

"A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement," the NGCP said.

Meanwhile, the NGCP said the Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition.

Yellow alert lifted

The NGCP lifted the yellow alert for Visayas grid at 1 p.m.

"As of 1:00PM, yellow alert has been lifted by NGCP for the Visayas grid," it said.

The available capacity of the said grid was at 2,711MW while peak demand is at 2,217MW.
