Magnitude 5.3 quake strikes off Davao Occidental
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental around 1:08 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHIVOLCS said the epicenter was located 05.46°N, 126.21°E - 080 km S 51° E of Jose Abad Santos.
The quake had a depth of 140 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. Aftershocks are expected.
Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
Intensity III was experienced in Malungon, Sarangani.
Intensity II was felt in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kiamba and Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City; and Tupi, South Cotabato.
Intensity I was also experienced in Matanao and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Maitum, Sarangani; T’boli and Koronadal City, South Cotabato. — GMA Regional TV News
