NBI files complaints vs. cops over alleged planting of evidence
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced Friday the filing of a complaint against several police officers for alleged planting of evidence in Nueva Vizcaya.
It said a complaint for planting of evidence and violation of the Revised Penal Code and other special laws addressing abuse of authority and obstruction of justice was filed with the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Nueva Vizcaya on July 29.
This came after a regional trial court (RTC) acquitted an individual in a case, ruling that the firearms seized from him during an operation were fabricated.
The RTC also said that one item was just “metal scrap,” according to the NBI.
Aside from this, the NBI said the RTC condemned the officers’ conduct as a clear violation of his constitutional rights.
“[Director Jaime Santiago added that the abuse of authority by wrongly incriminating a person through fabrication of false evidence has no place in the law enforcement,” the NBI said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated
