Student shot outside university in Abra

An 18-year-old student was accidentally shot and injured outside a university in Lagangilang, Abra after two other students allegedly opened fire in an act of revenge.

The shooting happened afternoon on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Police identified the suspects as students aged 24 and 17, who reportedly had a past conflict with another group.

“Nagkasalubong ulit ang suspek na allegedly lasing at ang nakaalitan niya sa labas ng compound ng school. Doon na pinaputukan ng suspek ng tatlong beses sakay ng motorsiklo yung kaalitan niya before pero ... ang natamaan doon sa pangatlong putok ay itong biktima natin,” PCpt. Reylan Balingway, officer-in-charge of Lagangilang Police Station, said.

Investigators said the victim, who was not involved in the quarrel, was only passing by when he was hit in the right leg. He was rushed to the hospital and is scheduled for surgery.

After the incident, the two suspects fled on a motorcycle.

Morning on Monday, August 25, 2025, relatives of the driver surrendered him to authorities.

“Noong August 25 ng umaga, isinuko ng kaniyang mga kaanak ang driver at amin namang itinurn over sa MSWD,” Balingway said.

Police said they are still gathering witness statements to determine the exact charges.

“Kumukuha pa tayo ng mga witnesses kasi hindi na-establish kasi. Magbabase tayo sa mga statement ng mga witnesses natin kung ano yung ikakaso,” Balingway added.

The second suspect remains at large as of press time. —GMA Regional TV
