Over 35,000 persons affected by Isang — DSWD

More than 8,000 families or over 36,000 persons were affected by Tropical Cyclone Isang which hit parts of Luzon, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said 34 barangays were also affected by the inclement weather.

“Mahigit 8,600 na mga pamilya or more than 36,000 individuals ‘yung naapektuhan. ‘Yung mga lugar na napinsala nitong si nagdaang Bagyong Isang, of course, ay yung mga lugar dito sa Bicol Region, Calabarzon, gayun din po sa Cagayan, Isabela, sa Aurora, gayun din po sa Oriental Mindoro pati na rin sa Marinduque, Romblon,” she said in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

(More than 8,600 families or more than 36,000 individuals were affected. The areas that were damaged by the recent Typhoon Isang, of course, are the areas here in the Bicol Region, Calabarzon, as well as in Cagayan, Isabela, in Aurora, as well as in Oriental Mindoro and also in Marinduque, Romblon.)

The DSWD added two families or eight individuals are currently staying in the evacuation center in Barangay Rizal in San Fernando, Camarines Sur. Meanwhile, 57 families or 210 people chose to stay with their relatives or friends in the meantime, Dumlao added.

Further, the department said it has extended P2.2 million worth of food packs and non-food items to those affected by Isang.

(In fact, we have more than P2.1 billion worth of our stockpiles, including our standby funds. This is ready to address the needs of our fellow citizens who will be affected and are currently affected by this low pressure area and the Southwest Monsoon.)
