Over 300 families affected by flood in Maguindanao del Sur
More than 300 families were affected by flooding caused by heavy rains in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur.
A video footage showed several students wading barefoot through floodwaters to attend the culminating activity for the “Buwan ng Wika” program at Lintukan Elementary School in Barangay Magaslong on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Some students removed their shoes to keep the footwear dry.
According to the barangay, classes were not suspended despite the flooding to push through with the school event.
The flooding reportedly began on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and affected several houses in the area.
Residents opted not to evacuate. Instead, they placed elevated wooden platforms to keep belongings and sleeping areas above water.
Floodwaters also submerged several areas and houses in Barangay Reina Regente. Their mosque was also affected, which disrupted their prayer.
In North Cotabato, motorists braved strong currents after a spillway was flooded in Barangay Santa Fe, Makilala.
Meanwhile, several homes in Santican, Tugbungan, Zamboanga City remained submerged for three days due to continuous rains.
Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) continue to assess the impact of the floods and the residents affected. —GMA Regional TV
