WATCH: Kanlaon Volcano emits ash; Alert Level 2 remains

Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The ash emission occurred at 5:10 a.m. and was captured on video.

This led to "grayish plumes that rose up to 600 meters above the crater," PHIVOLCS said. The plumes drifted westward.

Seven volcanic earthquakes meanwhile were recorded from 12 a.m., Tuesday, to 12 a.m., Wednesday, according to PHIVOLCS' bulletin.

The volcano also emitted 1,248 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Tuesday.

Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

The volcano poses hazards such as sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity.

PHIVOLCS reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone and flying aircraft close to the volcano are not allowed. —KG, GMA Integrated News
