Intense rains trigger flooding in Cotabato and South Cotabato
Several homes and farmlands were submerged in floodwaters following heavy rains in Cotabato and South Cotabato.
A farm in Barangay Moloy in Surallah, South Cotabato was flooded after a creek reportedly overflowed following intense rains on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
One horse that reportedly got trapped in the area where it was tethered drowned in the rising floodwaters, while other horses were rescued by residents.
“Hindi nila nakuha kay akala nila medyo gamay lang ang ulan,” Barangay Moloy Chairman Boyet Fulgencio said.
The barangay said around 15 hectares of rice fields were damaged.
Authorities are still assessing the number of households affected by the flooding.
Several motorists also struggled to pass through the national highway in Koronadal City after it was flooded.
In Cotabato, a road and some rice fields in Barangay Rangaban, Midsayap were also submerged in floodwaters.
In Pikit town, at least seven areas in Barangay Nabundas were affected.
The local government has urged residents to evacuate to higher ground for their safety.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the flooding was triggered by severe thunderstorms.
“Yan ay kaakibat sa epekto nitong severe thunderstorms. Although isolated case lamang ito sa hapon, but so far nagbuhos ng maraming pag-ulan sa mga nabanggit na lugar,” PAGASA-12 Chief Meteorological Chief, Engr. Jaymar Artigas, said.
