2 election gun ban violators nabbed in Maguindanao del Sur
Two suspects were arrested after firearms were discovered in their vehicle in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao del Sur amid the election gun ban, the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) said Tuesday.
Based on a police report, authorities flagged down the suspects at a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Barangay Sambulawan on Monday morning.
Police in plain view noticed the firearms inside the suspects’ vehicle and conducted an inspection.
The following firearms were recovered:
- 5.56mm Elisco Rifle
- caliber .45 Armscor Pistol
- 5.56mm Colt Rifle
- caliber .45 Shooter Pistol
All firearms were inserted with magazines loaded with live ammunition, the police said.
According to the police, the suspects failed to present valid documents for the guns.
The arrested suspects will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act as well as the Comelec gun ban.
The gun ban started on August 14 in light of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary polls.
