Ambuklao, Binga Dams open gates as water nears normal high level - PAGASA
The Ambuklao and Binga Dams in Benguet have opened at least one gate each as water levels have almost reached their normal high water levels (NHWL), the state weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday.
PAGASA hydrologist Elmer Caringal said that the water level in Ambuklao in Bokod is currently at 751.59 meters, which is only 0.41 meters below its NHWL of 752 meters.
Ambuklao has a gate opened at a height of 0.3 meters with a total discharge of 74.18 cms.
Meanwhile, Binga Dam in Rogon has a water level of 573.64 meters, which is 1.36 meters below the 575 meters NHWL. It also has one gate opened at 0.3 meters in height and a total discharge of 83.76 cms.
“Meron tayong nao-observe na pag-ulan, so kaya po medyo bahagyang umaangat po siya. That’s why ang Binga po ay still nakabukas pa rin po siya ng one gate, 0.3 meters in height at mayroon pong total discharge na 83.76 cms,” he said in a press conference.
(We are observing some rainfall, so that's why it is slightly rising. That's why Binga is still open with one gate, 0.3 meters in height, and has a total discharge of 83.76 cms.)
With the elevation of water levels in the said dams, PAGASA warned that residents of Barangay Ambuklao in Bokod; and Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon are likely to be affected. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
