Kanlaon volcano emits ash
Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island released ash on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In an update, PHIVOLCS said the volcano started to emit ash at 6:18 a.m. and stopped at 7:27 a.m.
“Ash emission at the Kanlaon summit crater was observed to have began at 06:18 AM today, 17 September 2025. This is ongoing activity that is producing a low plume that is drifting north-northeast,” PHIVOLCS said.
“Ash emission ceased at 7:27 AM,” it added.
Alert Level 2 is maintained over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is an increased unrest. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.
Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
