Driver dies after overtaking pickup falls off Pangasinan bridge

A 56-year-old man died after the pickup truck he was driving fell off a bridge in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

According to CJ Torida’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” authorities used a crane to lift the pickup truck that was submerged in a stream on Tuesday.

Rescuers and residents worked together to rescue the victim, but he had already passed away when he was pulled out of the vehicle.

Prior to the fatal accident, CCTV footage showed the pickup overtake a pedicab but in doing so climbed over the railing of a narrow bridge, causing it to overturn and plunge into a stream below.

Police said the bridge is only five meters wide.

The diver's wake is being held at his home. His family declined to comment on the matter.

Police said the driver possibly hit his head during the fall, as he was unconscious and showed no further movement after the accident, according to a witness. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
