Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes La Union

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck La Union before dawn Friday and was felt in nearby provinces.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the epicenter was located 49 km northwest of Luna, La Union at a depth of 17 km. 

The reported intensities following the 3:52 a.m. earthquake are: 

• Intensity V - Luna, La Union 
• Intensity IV - Villasis, Pangasinan
• Intensity III - Baguio City

Instrumental Intensities:

• Intensity III - Bolinao and Bani, Pangasinan; Sinait and City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Bontoc, Mountain Province;
• Intensity II - Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Candon and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur; Bangar, La Union; Dagupan City, Urdaneta, and Lingayen, Pangasinan;
• Intensity I - Dinalupihan and Orani, Bataan; Baguio City; Obando and Calumpit, Bulacan; Claveria, Cagayan; San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; Malabon City; Guagua, Pampanga; Umingan and Sison, Pangasinan; Ramos and Bamban, Tarlac; Subic, Iba, Masinloc, San Marcelino, and Cabangan, Zambales
