21 alleged pushers, users arrested in Apalit


APALIT, Pampanga, Philippines - A total of 21 suspected drug pushers and users were arrested here in separate operations conducted recently by police operatives in cooperation with the local government unit (LGU) here. According to Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr., the operations were part of the police and municipal government's drive to eliminate and lower the crime rate in this town. "We will make sure that Apalit is a drug-free municipality in order to preserve the peace and order as well as the security if the people here," said Tetangco. Earlier, the mayor disclosed that 27 beerhouses and pub houses had been closed since he assumed his post as chief executive here. As early as July last year, Tetangco said he had ordered the closure of all the beerhouses that operates in this town in order to protect the town and his constituents from engaging to different unnecessary activities. Tetangco also said the beer houses might be used for prostitution in the town as well as other illegal activities that might ruin the peace and order of this municipality. - Sun.Star
