Residents use improvised zipline to cross river in Maguindanao del Norte amid damaged bridge

With the bridge damaged, some residents have defied danger and resorted to crossing a raging river in Maguindanao del Norte using an improvised zipline.

The residents said they hope the bridge damaged by super typhoon Nando can be repaired soon.

According to Ivan Mayrina’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” 24 towns in Maguindanao del Sur were flooded due to the recent tropical cyclones, based on the assessment of the Bangsamoro Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Among them is the Mangudadatu town, which has been flooded since last week.

On Tuesday, rainfall persisted in Olongapo City despite Nando's exit from the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Meanwhile, debris was seen flying as a tornado struck Barangay East Bajak-Bajak.

The uploader said the tornado lasted for about one minute.

In Meycauayan, Bulacan, nine houses were damaged by another tornado.

Portions of some roads were seen littered with the roofs of homes.

The Meycauayan government conducted a clearing operation, but the power supply has yet to be restored.

At the height of Nando on Monday, some motorists ran for safety when a landslide occurred along Sapyo Road in Dingalan, Aurora.

The clearing operation was completed after the road was closed for more than 24 hours.

Another clearing operation was conducted after a landslide occurred in Tuba, Benguet.

Meanwhile, Camarines Norte experienced a downpour as tropical cyclone Opong neared the Philippine landmass.

The heavy rainfall caused zero visibility in some areas and flooding on some roads.

In preparation for Opong, the last roll on-roll off trips from Albay to Catanduanes were scheduled earlier Wednesday afternoon.

Special trips at night were also cancelled to ensure public safety. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
