41-year-old rider dead after AUV crash in Cainta
A 41-year-old motorcycle rider was killed after he collided with an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) along Felix Avenue in Cainta, Rizal early Sunday morning.
In her report on 24 Oras Weekend, EJ Gomez said the fatal accident occurred at past 1 a.m.
CCTV footage showed the AUV along the main road making a left turn to a residential subdivision when the victim’s motorcycle coming from the opposite side struck it.
Due to the speed he was traveling, the rider spun several feet in the air before landing on the road. He was pronounced dead on the spot.
Police said the victim was on his way home to Antipolo CIty after playing basketball in Cainta. The 57-year-old driver of the AUV was on his way to fetch family members who will be traveling to a nearby province to attend a funeral of a relative.
The rider’s family declined to comment on the accident.
Police have the AUV driver in custody who said he was surprised with how things happened, saying the victim was traveling very fast.
“Nagulat po ako. Sobrang bilis niya. Nakakalungkot. Wala naman po akong masamang intention. Aksidente po talaga,” said the AUV driver who is facing a charge reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property.
(I was surprised. He was moving very fast. It’s very sad. I don’t have any bad intentions. It was really an accident.) —RF, GMA Integrated News
