Donations for Cebu earthquake victims reach P383k - Cebu provincial gov't

The Cebu provincial government has received P 383,370.10 in cash donations so far for the victims of the devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked the province earlier this week.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Cebu provincial government said 6,478 volunteers have also signed up for relief operations as of 5 pm Thursday.

This is apart from an estimated P 985,182 worth of in-kind donations such as bottles of drinking water, food packs, medical equipment, canned goods, toiletries, clothing, household supplies, powdered drinks, ready-to-eat food pack meals, and vehicles for transportation.

“Relief goods have been deployed to Northern Cebu, particularly in Bogo City, Medellin, Daanbantayan, San Remigio, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Borbon, Sogod and Tuburan,” the post added.

The death toll for the powerful tremor that hit Cebu on Tuesday has reached 72 so far, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The quake also caused severe damage to infrastructure and heritage sites, displacing thousands of residents.

Cebu earlier declared a state of calamity after the earthquake, with other local government units making similar declarations in the aftermath of the disaster. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
