Truck ban temporarily lifted in Cebu

Governor Pamela "Pam'' Baricuatro has ordered the temporary lifting of the truck ban on all national and provincial roads across the province of Cebu.

Baricuatro signed Executive Order No. 58 to allow the free passage of vehicles transporting relief goods, construction materials, basic commodities, and other essential cargo to areas severely affected by the deadly magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu last Tuesday night.

Following this, the Philippine National Police, in coordination with local traffic enforcement units, was tasked to implement the order.

This will take effect immediately and will remain in force until the State of Calamity in the province is lifted.

The death toll from the September 30 earthquake that struck Bogo City was initially reported at 72 people on Thursday. However, Philippine disaster officials later clarified the official count to 68.

The number of recorded injured individuals stands at more than 500.

Dozens of buildings and infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and seaports, were damaged or collapsed in Bogo as well as in neighboring towns.

On Thursday, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. visited the affected families, pledging nearly P200 million worth of cash assistance to affected local government units and hospitals. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
