CAAP extends ban on flights near Taal Volcano
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has extended the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for flights near Taal Volcano, with vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet.
The CAAP said that the NOTAM is effective from October 3, 2025 at 8:10 a.m. until October 4, 2025 at 9 a.m.
Due to this, flight operators are advised to avoid flying near the volcano as it remains under Alert Level 1.
To recall, Taal Volcano erupted briefly early Wednesday, September 30. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the eruption started shortly before 2 a.m. and ended at 2:15 a.m.
Flight cancellations
Meanwhile, a total of 16 flights were canceled due to Typhoon Paolo, affecting routes between Manila and Tuguegarao, Cauayan, and Laoag, according to CAAP.
In its 2 p.m. bulletin, weather bureau PAGASA said that Paolo was spotted in the vicinity of Mayoyao, Ifugao, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph.
The CAAP then advised affected passengers to coordinate with their respective airlines for flight updates as well as rebooking assistance.
The agency further assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant coordination with airline operators and airport authorities to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of travelers. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
