Newborn baby found in Pampanga kangkong patch
Residents found a newborn baby who was abandoned in a kangkong patch in Barangay San Vicente in Macabebe, Pampanga.
According to Chino Gaston’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” barangay tanods began their search after they received reports that a baby was heard crying behind the barangay hall.
The search proved difficult due to the height of the kangkong and the knee-level water.
After a few moments, the searchers saw a towel that appeared to have bloodstains. Wrapped in it was a newborn male infant, who had visible injuries and still had his umbilical cord.
The person who rescued the baby said he had ingested some water but was immediately brought to the hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities said the baby is now in good condition.
Barangay personnel are coordinating with police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in taking care for the baby.
Authorities are searching for the baby’s parents, who barangay personnel believe are not from their community since their health workers know all pregnant women in their area.
They urged the baby’s parents to come forward or call them to check on their baby’s well-being. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF. GMA Integrated News
