The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said power transmission services in Mindanao remain stable immediately following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that rocked Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday morning.

“Power transmission services in Northeastern, North Central, and Southwestern Mindanao remain stable,” the grid operator said.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocked Manay, Davao Oriental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

Initially, PHIVOLCS reported that the earthquake was magnitude 7.6 before downgrading it.

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers occurred at 09:43 a.m.

In a separate advisory, the NGCP said it is still assessing the extent of the damage in Southeastern Mindanao, which is near the epicenter of the earthquake.

However, it said that initial reports indicate the following lines are unavailable:

  • Davao-Toril 69kV line
  • Nabunturan-Asuncion 69kV line
  • Nabunturan-Masara 138kV line.

“The 69kV lines serve parts of Davao City, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro,” the NGCP said.
