Two reported dead in Davao Oriental amid panic during magnitude 7.4 earthquake
The authorities in Davao Oriental have received reports of at least two deaths in the wake of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit the province on Friday morning.
Davao Oriental Rep. Cheeno Almario said one of the fatalities was a senior citizen patient in a hospital who panicked and suffered a "cardiac arrest," while the other was a 54-year-old woman who was buried under a wall that fell.
"The rescue team came to her aid but was not able to resuscitate her,” Almario said.
Many residents also suffered panic attacks, the lawmaker said.
“Thankfully, our healthcare providers and our district and provincial hospitals are on top of it. These people are well taken care of,” Almariio said.
Almario said the earthquake also damaged bridges and caused minor landslides.
The Office of Civil Defense in Davao region also reported two deaths, both from Mati City. –with a report from Reuters/NB, GMA Integrated News
