SC inspects Cebu court facilities after magnitude 6.9 earthquake 


The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday said it has inspected trial courts in Cebu City and facilities of the Court of Appeals following the devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Bogo City last Sept. 30.

SC Associate Justice Ramon Hernando, chair of the Oversight Committee, and the Office of the Regional Court Manager for the Seventh Judicial Region conducted the inspection on Oct. 8.

The SC said the judges in the area relayed their concerns to Hernando after the visit.

On Monday, the Office of Civil Defense said the death toll in the powerful earthquake is now at 75.

A total of 94,844 houses were damaged, of which 89,224 were partially damaged and 5,620 were totally destroyed. 

Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded 12,079 aftershocks as of Tuesday morning. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
