Teacher shot by husband inside Tanauan, Leyte school

A public school teacher ended up wounded after she was allegedly shot by her husband out of jealousy inside a school in Tanauan, Leyte on Thursday morning, police said.

According to a report from the Philippine National Police’s Police Regional Office 8, the incident transpired at the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries in Barangay Canramos at 7:23 a.m.

The 48-year-old victim was already inside the school when the 46-year-old suspect - her husband - arrived and allegedly shot his wife in the right shoulder.

The suspect then threw his firearm, a .38 caliber “paltik” revolver, on the roof of a nearby building.

A student informed responding police officers that the victim was brought to a hospital in Tacloban City by a co-teacher for immediate medical treatment.

Police officers saw the suspect wielding a fan knife or “balisong” and attempting to harm himself, prompting authorities to pacify him and take him into custody.

Initial investigation showed that the victim and the suspect were already separated. The jobless husband also alleged that he caught his wife having an affair with another man.

Police also recovered the fan knife and the gun wielded by the suspect, who was brought to the Tanauan Municipal System for documentation and proper disposition. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
