Sea travel suspended in some areas due to Ramil —NDRRMC


At least 12 seaports in Calabarzon stopped operations as sea travel was prohibited in some areas due to Tropical Storm Ramil (international name: Fengshen), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday. 

These seaports are in the following areas in Quezon:

  • Real
  • Polillo
  • Infanta
  • Patnanungan
  • Burdeos
  • Lucena - two seaports
  • Atimonan
  • Guinayangan
  • Gumaca
  • Mauban
  • San Andres


Ninety passengers, 17 rolling cargoes, and two motorbancas meanwhile were reported stranded in Real, Atimonan, and Alabat in Quezon, it added in its 8 a.m. situational report.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m., it has monitored 3,239 passengers and drivers stranded in ports in Bicol, Southern Tagalog, Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Luzon.

Aside from them, six vessels and 887 rolling cargoes were also stranded in the same areas.

Taking shelter meanwhile are 20 vessels and 14 motorbancas, the PCG said. 

 

 

From 8 a.m. to 12 nn on Saturday, in the Bicol Region, the PCG said there were:

  • 3,140 passengers/drivers stranded
  • 954 rolling cargoes
  • 5 vessels
  • 1 motorbanca

 

In Southern Tagalog, 117 passengers/drivers and 19 rolling cargoes were stranded during those hours.

Meanwhile, in Eastern Visayas, 655 passengers/drivers and 165 rolling cargoes were stranded from 8 a.m. to 12 nn Saturday.

In Northeastern Luzon, on the other hand, one vessel and 7 motorbancas were taking shelter, the PCG said.

 

Classes meanwhile were suspended in some areas in anticipation of Ramil's effects. 

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over eight areas as follows:

  • The northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan)
  • Polillo Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • Catanduanes
  • The northern portion of Camarines Sur (Tinambac, Siruma, Goa, San Jose, Lagonoy, Garchitorena, Caramoan, Presentacion)
  • The extreme eastern portion of Albay (Rapu-Rapu)
  • The northeastern portion of Sorsogon (Prieto Diaz)
  • The northeastern portion of Northern Samar (Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Pambujan, San Roque, Mondragon, Gamay)

 

TCWS No. 1 meanwhile was raised in some areas in Luzon and Visayas.

According to PAGASA's forecast, Ramil may make landfall or pass close to Catanduanes on Saturday afternoon or evening.

A gale warning was raised over the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, as sea travel is risky for vessels, PAGASA said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
