Heavy rains, flooding reported in provinces ahead of Ramil's landfall

Some provinces in the country had already experienced heavy rains and flooding prior to Tropical Storm Ramil making landfall in Sorsogon on Saturday afternoon.

According to a "24 Oras Weekend" report by Darlene Cay on Saturday, residents of Barangay Sampao in Almeria, Biliran, woke up to the sound of gushing and rushing floodwaters.

Waters also receded quickly when the rain stopped, according to the barangay.

The Pulangi River in Kabacan, Cotabato, also overflowed following heavy rains.

Residents living near the river were evacuated, while the local government distributed aid to affected families.

Other barangays were flooded due to heavy rains.

Several barangays in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur, were also affected by the overflowing of the Pulangi River.

In Gen. S. K. Pendatun town, floodwaters almost reached the roof.

According to the MDRRMO, about 300 families were evacuated when their houses were flooded. The evacuation center itself was submerged in floodwaters.

Some residents remained on the side of the road.

According to the MDRRMO, their town serves as a catch basin whenever other areas are flooded and the surrounding rivers overflow.

The local government is now distributing aid to the affected residents. —Jamil Santos/VBL, GMA Integrated News
