Kanlaon Volcano emits ash —PHIVOLCS

Ash emissions were observed from Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In a Facebook post with a time-lapse video of the activity, PHIVOLCS said ash was released from Kanlaon Volcano’s summit crater from 7:28 a.m. to 7:38 a.m.

“Time-lapse footage of ash emission at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano that occurred at 07:28 AM to 07:38 AM, today (20 October 2025),” PHIVOLCS said.

“This event generated grayish plumes that rose up to 300 meters above the crater before drifting to the west as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory - Canlaon City (KVO-CC) IP Camera,” it added.

A second ash emission was reported at 9:20 a.m.

“Time-lapse footage of an ongoing ash emission at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano that occurred at 09:20 AM, today (20 October 2025)...The ash emission ended at 10:54 AM, 20 October 2025,” PHIVOLCS said.

“This event generated grayish plumes that rose up to 300 meters above the crater before drifting to the west-northwest as recorded by the IP Camera in Mansalanao, La Castellana (VKMN) station,” it added.

Alert Level 2 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is an increased unrest. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.

Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited. —AOL/KG,GMA Integrated News
