Salome flight cancellations affect over 100 passengers
More than 100 passengers were affected by flight cancellations as then Tropical Depression Salome brought strong winds and heavy rains in Batanes.
According to Tina Panganiban Perez’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, Batanes was placed under Signal No. 1 before Salome weakened into a low pressure area.
However, parts of Mindanao experienced foul weather and heavy rains that caused floods in the region. The state weather bureau said this was due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
In Alamada, Cotabato, two motorcycle riders who attempted to cross an overflow bridge were rescued from being almost swept away by the current.
The river also overflowed in Barangay Upper Bulanan in Midsayap town, also in Cotabato.
After the downpour, some roads in Koronadal City resembled rivers as they were submerged in floods.
In Barangay Cacub, some houses were flooded as a nearby creek overflowed with water.
According to the Koronadal City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, more than 100 individuals were evacuated as a result of the floods. There were no reported casualties.
Most of the affected families lived near the banks of rivers, creeks, and major waterways in the city.
Meanwhile, the water level of the dam between Barangay Topland and Barangay Magsaysay also rose and the current got stronger.
Some roads in Balabagan, Lanao del Sur were also not passable due to floods.
