Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits offshore Davao Oriental
A magnitude 4.9 earthquake was recorded offshore Manay, Davao Oriental on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The earthquake occurred at 8.25 a.m. with epicenter at 07.07°N, 127.18°E - 073 km S 78° E of Manay, it said.
PHIVOLCS said the earthquake had a depth of 3 km and was tectonic in origin.
"This is an aftershock of the October 2025 Offshore Davao Oriental Earthquake," it added.
No damage and aftershocks are expected from Sunday's earthquake, PHIVOLCS said.
This earthquake was first reported by PHIVOLCS as having magnitude 5.3, then it was downgraded it to magnitude 4.9 in an update.
Last October 10, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck 43 kilometers east of Manay, Davao Oriental, at 9:43 a.m. This was followed at 7:12 p.m. that day by a magnitude 6.8 earthquake. PHIVOLCS said these were a doublet — two closely-timed earthquakes happening nearby. —KG, GMA Integrated News
