Cebu reeling from Typhoon Tino devastation

The residents of Cebu are trying to make sense of the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino that killed at least 76 people and resulted in a still to be determined amount of damage.

According to JP Soriano’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” aerial video shot by a drone showed how the storm submerged roads, houses, and other establishments in Cebu.

The flood forced residents to wade through murky brown water, while vehicles were stuck in traffic.

One man shared how he almost drowned after being swept away by the strong current of the flood.

Another resident said he does not know how to continue his business since his equipment were damaged by the flood.

In Liloan, Cebu, several vehicles were swept away by the high level of floods.

Several trapped residents waited on the rooftops of their houses while waiting to be rescued.

There were piles of vehicles that were swept away by floodwater in the cities of Mandaue and Cebu.

Based on data from the Cebu provincial government, the latest numbers of fatalities and their locations are as follows:

  • Liloan - 35
  • Compostel - 15
  • Consolacion - 1
  • Danao City - 9
  • Mandaue City - 9
  • Talisay - 7

At least 12 persons were also reported to have perished in Canlaon, Negros Oriental.

Meanwhile, another 10 individuals were reported missing.

Canlaon Town has no communication or power supply, as electric posts were toppled by the strong winds and heavy downpour.

Some roads were also deemed impassable due to flood and debris.

The Philippine Red Cross continues its search and rescue operations. The PRC said it rescued a family in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on early Wednesday morning.
