Marcos to Cebu flood victims: We will help you recover

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday vowed to help the victims of Typhoon Tino in Cebu recover, particularly those whose relatives died amid the bad weather.

Marcos said this as he lamented the high death toll in the province of Cebu following the onslaught of Tino.

“We will be helping the families of those na naging casualty. We will help them to recover, put them back on their feet and do what we can to make up for the loss that they have suffered,” Marcos told reporters in Cebu City.

“And again, I made the same promise to Cebu, your Governor and your Mayor, that as long as the government, the national government is needed, we will be here. We are not leaving,” he added.

Marcos also said cash assistance worth P5,000 would be given to those whose houses were partially damaged and P10,000 to those families whose homes were destroyed by the typhoon.

Some families will also be relocated as their houses were completely damaged by the typhoon, Marcos said.

Marcos said personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways are roaming around to inspect the status of the roads and to check if they need repairs.

Earlier, Marcos personally checked the relief operations in Liloan and distributed assistance to the affected families there.

The reported death toll due to Typhoon Tino has increased to 188, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

Of this number of fatalities, 139 are from Cebu province.

Marcos, on Thursday, said he has approved the recommendation to declare a state of national calamity due to Tino. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
