Visayas grid under yellow alert on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 — NGCP

Visayas grid under yellow alert on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 — NGCP

The Visayas power grid is on yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon due to the unavailability of several power plants, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert status in the Visayas would be implemented from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A yellow alert indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.

The Visayas grid is running at an available capacity of 2,694 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 11,829 MW.

The grid operator said the “14 plants have been on forced outage between April to November, four since 2024, and two other power plants out since 2023; while 14 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 898.6MW unavailable to the grid.”

The NGCP added that the following factors contributed to the raising of yellow alert:

  • Unavailability of TVI 1 and 2 (169MW each)
  • Emergency shutdown of LGPP 3 (de-rating LGPP from 79.5MW to 39.3MW)

Meanwhile, the Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
