Yellow alert raised over Visayas grid on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025 — NGCP
A yellow alert status was raised over the Visayas power grid on Thursday amid thin reserves due to the unavailability of several power plants, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert status in the Visayas would be implemented from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A yellow alert indicates that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
The Visayas grid is running at an available capacity of 2,500 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,301 MW.
The grid operator said that “nine plants have been on forced outage between April to November, 4 since 2024, and two other power plants out since 2023; while 18 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 660.5MW unavailable to the grid.”
The NGCP added the unavailability of TVI 2 (169MW) contributed to the raising of yellow alert.
Meanwhile, the Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
