Ex-village chief killed in Batangas clash

MANILA, Philippines - At least two persons were killed, one of them a former village chief, in an encounter in Batangas province, dzBB radio reported early Thursday. Initial reports indicated the shootout between police and a suspected criminal gang occurred in Paloc-Paloc village in Tanauan City. One of those killed was initially identified as former village chief Vivencio Javier. It was not immediately clear if he was with the police during the the encounter. - GMANews.TV
